The arrangement

A number of the outbound links on this site are affiliate links. Subscribe to a provider after following one and that provider may pay us a share of what you spend. The amount varies between providers, which is precisely why it is kept away from the people deciding the order of the table.

You are not charged more

Commission is paid out of the provider's margin, not added to your bill. The price is identical whether you arrive through this site or type the address in yourself. There is no surcharge for using our links and no discount withheld from anyone who does not.

What money cannot buy here

A position on the table is not for sale. No provider has ever been moved up for paying more, and none has been given sight of a review before publication. The service we rank first is the one we judged best value on renewal pricing, and it is not the highest-commission entry on the page.

We also review providers that pay us nothing at all, and we write critically about ones that do. Where a service we earn from has let us down, that appears in the write-up in the same words we would use for any other. A disclosure that only ever accompanied praise would be worthless.

What the commission pays for

It funds the subscriptions themselves, the hardware we test on, the broadband the testing runs over, and the time spent watching. That funding model is what lets us pay full price for everything rather than depending on providers to supply free accounts, which is the arrangement that quietly compromises most review sites.
